A Family for Every Child (AFFEC) serves Lane County youth and young adults ages 14-24 who are at risk of or are currently experiencing homelessness.
At any given time, there are over 500 unaccompanied youth experiencing homelessness in Lane County. Youth experiencing homelessness are vulnerable to victimization, trafficking, mental health crises, substance abuse, and chronic illness. AFFEC works to ensure that youth have safe, stable housing, access to basic needs, and connection to services and support.
Youth engaging in AFFEC’s services work with case managers and peer support to set and attain youth-centered goals that bridge the gap between current and needed skills. Youth attain the self-efficacy, self-esteem, and growth mindset needed to build resilience, attain a high school or equivalent degree, gain employment experience, and identify a pathway to a living wage career.
Host Home Program
Host Homes provide short-term housing for youth experiencing homelessness through partnership with community volunteers.
Hosts provide a room in their home for youth to stay while AFFEC provides wrap-around services and support for host and youth alike.
Serving Rural Lane County
One third of Lane County’s homeless youth live in rural communities. All of the county’s youth shelters and transitional housing programs are in urban areas. AFFEC partners with local school districts to recruit rural Hosts. This allows youth to remain connected to their school and support network while receiving wraparound care.
AFFEC’s goal is to serve homeless youth in rural communities with equitable resources that address their unique needs.
Case Management
Youth Case Managers help youth identify what they need in order to reach their goals. They help youth access needed resources and skills, enable successful goal achievement, and teach them to solve complex problems independently.
Peer Support
Youth Peer Supports are young adults who overcame homelessness as a youth. Peer Supports have an Oregon Health Authority certification. They walk alongside youth as they take steps toward stability.
